Historically, the clothes worn by tennis players have tended to have
been all-white. Nowadays, all sorts of colours can be seen on the
courts.
Clothing should be comfortable, well-fitting and in no way
impede the swing or rapid movement. Movement produces heat which
dissipates in sweat. If left on the body, this may cause discomfort.
Wearing absorbent clothing can assist in avoiding this problem. Clean
and stylish clothing can boost a player's feeling of pride when they
step out onto the court.
The feet take a tremendous amount of
pounding, so select well-fitting and adequately ventilated tennis shoes.
If your shoes do not allow adequate ventilation, then this will lead to
more sweat around the feet, which can result in blisters. Select
tennis shoes with soles that can give enough traction on the type of
surface you will be playing on. A thicker sole is usually preferred
because this will absorb more shock and cushion the knees. Socks
should be absorbent, soft and washed carefully after every use.
Ill-fitting socks may lead to blisters and bunions.
In sunny weather, wearing a cap or hat will help to shade your face
and keep it cooler, as well as partially keep the sun out of your eyes,
which is important when serving or hitting smashes. Sunglasses may also
help to reduce the sun's glare. |
